Figuratively

Drawing the human form was long considered a fundamental way to learn figurative art, and in my experience there is some truth in this. Repeatedly looking at proportion, perspective and the way light and shadow work develops the memory and deepens our understanding of what our limbs look like, if they are supporting weight, relaxed or expressive.  However my  love of this art form is also about finding joy in the  differences of bodies, and in understanding how we show our states of mind through our physicality, our gestures, postures and positions.

The images here are from life drawing sessions and underpin much of my other work.
